About Us
A financial institution being built by the community, for the community.
Currently in Organization • Subject to Regulatory ApprovalOur Story
Many diaspora households work, save and support families across two continents, yet still encounter financial systems that were not designed with them in mind. The organizing effort behind Diaspora Credit Union begins with a simple idea: a financial institution that understands its members.
Credit unions are cooperatives. Members are owners, not customers. That structure is the foundation of the proposed institution — earnings would support the institution and its members rather than outside shareholders.
The proposed focus is practical: savings habits, responsible credit, a first home, a growing business and financial knowledge that passes to the next generation.
The proposed field of membership is being developed around Ghanaian Diaspora Association of America, Inc. and the many organizations that already anchor community life across the United States.
Rather than a costly branch network, the proposed operating model is digital-first: mobile and online banking supported by modern financial technology and shared ATM access.

To build a trusted, member-owned financial institution that strengthens the economic well-being of diaspora families, entrepreneurs and communities.
To become a leading cooperative financial institution connecting diaspora communities with opportunity, ownership and generational prosperity.
Diaspora Credit Union is currently a proposed financial institution in organization and is subject to regulatory approval. It is not presently chartered to conduct credit union business, is not accepting deposits, and is not currently representing that accounts are federally insured. Information on this website describes the proposed institution and may change during the chartering process.
Why a Credit Union
Credit unions and banks both provide financial services. The core difference is who owns the institution and how earnings are used.
This comparison is general education about cooperative and shareholder ownership structures. Diaspora Credit Union is not yet chartered and does not currently offer products or services.
